It was a story about America

That's how Don McLean described his song "American Pie." Always one of my favorites, I thought you might enjoy this interpretation of the meaning behind the lyrics.

That was terrific - thanks for posting it.

It's a great song - rich and evocative. I don't think I agree with his opinion about the music - I think popular music "died" sometime in the 70s - but he's right about America. Something about America did die in the 60s, and what replaced it never lived up to its promise.

Abi, I posted the song because this blog (and blogger) needed a mental timeout! Seriously, though, I agree with your assertion that something did die in the 60's and what replaced it never lived up to its promise. Our generation had great ideals, but greed took over and jaded much of what we touched.
